How do I apply to Columbus Magnet School?

Admission to Columbus Magnet School is through a Lottery drawing. To be included in the annual Lottery, parents must submit applications for their children during the Lottery Application Period: January 16 through March 15, 2018. The Lottery will be drawn on Thursday, April 5, 2018.



  • Lottery Applications will only be distributed during our scheduled evening information meetings and daytime tours. (See dates below).
  • If you attended an information meeting or guided tour previously, please call (203) 899-2840 to let us know.
  • Applications are pre-numbered and may not be reproduced.
  • Applicants must be residents of Norwalk. (Proof of residency required.)
  • Kindergarten applicants must be born on or before January 1, 2014.
  • All applications require parent/guardian signatures.
  • Information in the application will be checked for accuracy. False information will disqualify the applicant.
  • To qualify as a sibling and receive priority status, both applicant and sibling must attend Columbus Magnet School in the 2018/2019 school year.
  • Applicants may only apply to one of Norwalk's magnet schools. Applying to more than one school will disqualify all applications submitted.
  • All applicants must be registered at their home school by the April 15 lottery drawing in order to be eligible for acceptance into Columbus Magnet School.
  • Only siblings of current Columbus students will register at Columbus.
  • Application confirmations and lottery numbers will be mailed to all applicants.
  • Applications received after the March 15, 2018 deadline will be held until after the lottery drawing and applicants will then be placed on the waiting list.

Daytime Guided Tours are conducted during the Lottery Application Period to showcase the wonderful learning opportunities taking place at Columbus Magnet School. Space is limited. Reservations are required.

How am I Notified of Lottery Results?

Lottery results will be mailed to all applicants. After the Lottery, congratulatory letters will be mailed to those applicants who are selected in the drawing. Letters will include a response form which must be signed and returned.

At the Lottery drawing, once we fill available spots, we pull the remaining applicants (if any) and place them on a waiting list in the order they are drawn. Letters notifying applicants of their placement on the waiting list will be mailed. We will call the next applicant on the waiting list when a vacancy occurs. From the time of notification, applicants will have 24 hours to reply. Please make sure our school office has current contact information.
